Mira Mesa High School is A California Distinguished School and has been recognized by the state for its Exemplary Career Technical Education Program. MMHS is a comprehensive, neighborhood school drawing students from the diverse and integrated Mira Mesa neighborhood. The few remaining spaces quickly fill with students who choose to attend. We consider the student body our best asset.
To prepare our students for post-secondary education, work, and service to community, we offer an assessment-driven, standards-based instructional program with high academic rigor. We endeavor to assist our students to meet our high expectations. Most courses in both core and elective subjects meet a-g requirements for UC admission. Over 20 AP and college classes are offered on campus. Numerous career prep electives and ROP courses allow students to choose from 10 career pathways.
Students enjoy a wide variety of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) classes and a full complement of competitive athletic teams. Students compete locally and at state and national levels in JROTC, band, dance and cheer bringing home numerous awards from intense and prestigious competitions. Extra-curricular opportunities encourage exploration of personal interests, time management, and development of of leadership skills.
A 98% graduation rate is achieved by emphasizing student-centered instruction, promoting responsibility, and providing intervention programs. Course offerings reflect a strong commitment to prepare students for college. More than 89% of seniors continue into higher education at colleges and universities. As a result of its many outstanding programs, high test scores, and superb staff, MMHS is fully accredited by WASC and has received many awards.
