We are wild about learning!
Things are looking up at Clay Elementary. Our enrollment is up. Our test scores are up, too, with a 43 point point boost in one year that shows our programs are working and our students are gaining confidence and knowledge at an impressive level.
Achievement is up too, with a record number of students being celebrated for earning a place on the Wildcat Superstar Honor Roll. This is a highly prized achievement here at Clay, and when a student scores proficient or above on his or her benchmark levels we shine the spotlight on the event with a celebration. Hard work is always recognized and rewarded at Clay. For they truly are Wildcat stars!
One of the keys to our students' success is their family's involvement in their education. We have regular Family Fridays where students' families join them in the classroom so they can read with their student, and show their support for them. We always get a crowd!
Our families also turn out in strength for our other programs such as Family Science Night, Arts and Craft Night, our Fall Festival, Spring Fling and Family Literacy Night as well. Families participate in a variety of learning events that support both children and parents. Our dedicated staff and Parent-Teacher Association work hard to keep the family connection to education strong.
The community support for Clay Elementary also remains strong. We have an exciting partnership with the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center, which works with families suffering hardship to support them and also helps our students with athletic scholarships. We also have regular volunteers from the Sunrise Optimist Club who pitch in on a weekly basis, because they care about our kids and our school. This year we are excited to also partner with our local universities, San Diego State University and University of California, San Diego, who provide mentors, tutors and interns to our school.
Our school in the Rolando neighborhood offers great diversity that helps students prepare to succeed in the global society. We believe in and support achievement of academic excellence and social responsibility. We hold high expectations. We honor cultural diversity, provide rigorous and appropriate instruction for all, and identify and respond to students' strengths and needs. Student achievements are celebrated as they strive to realize their unlimited potential and develop into responsible, respectful and ethical citizens.
Come see Clay in action!
