Grant TK-8's innovative curriculum and dedicated staff of credentialed, highly experienced teachers set us apart. With the support of the parents through the Grant Community Foundation and Parent Teacher Association (PTA), Grant offers a full array of science, technology, engineering, art, and music courses to students from grades TK through 8.
With a legacy as a Math/Science Magnet school, Grant TK-8 continues to focus its support in the areas of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math). The Grant Community Foundation Imagine Campaign and Mission Hills 5K support this effort through donations that fortify teacher education, laboratory supplies, and online learning programs.
Grant's Music program for grades 4-8 includes both band and orchestra. Music is a required subject in grades 4 and 5, and an elective in Middle School. Each year the musicians perform a Winter and Spring Concert. Many of the musicians go on to play in the San Diego Unified School District Honor Orchestra.
Grant now has the Engineerium (the new Grant K8 coding, technology, engineering design and robotics lab), including:
- Prusa 3D printers
- Dremel Laser Cutter and supplies
- Beanbags
- Paint & other supplies for lab renovation
- Lockable tool cabinet and tools
- Calipers, volt meters and electronics equipment for students
- Keva planks for structural engineering unit
- Sewing machines
The Gecko Garden Life Sciences & Health program allows all students to explore horticulture. With the help of the science lab resources, students participate in a school-wide project that connects them with their environment and promotes good nutrition.
Grant’s Gecko Garden is an “outdoor laboratory” funded by parent and community donations with oversight from the science lab coordinator and assisted by dedicated teachers, parent room parent representatives and volunteers.
