Hearst Elementary is located in the Del Cerro area of San Diego, north of San Diego State University. At this time our student population consist of our neighborhood children, due to the large population within our school boundaries. This wonderful blend of students is reflective of our city's diversity and helps our students learn to respect others and work and play harmoniously.
Our students at Hearst are fortunate to have an involved community to support and enhance their school experience. Please feel welcome as you become part of our community. You are an integral part of our program, and you are key to its success. Our school is a dynamic, busy place. We value your feedback, especially if it comes with a solution or suggestion, and we continuously strive to improve our school. We hope that this is evident in the progress made by every child.
The Hearst community thrives when everyone remembers to be caring, contributing and inquiring members. We acknowledge that academic success is paramount for all of us, yet Hearst's goal is also to make sure that every child's time here is memorable, enjoyable and successful.
Hearst Elementary School is named in honor of Phoebe Apperson Hearst (1842-1919). Phoebe Hearst was dedicated to education for all and a generous philanthropist. In 1897, she co-founded the National Congress of Mothers, the forerunner of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Today, the PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States.
Our goal is to ensure that every child receives a meaningful and strong education. In keeping with Phoebe Hearst's vision, we are committed to communicating with and engaging parents as partners in their children's education.
