Oak Park Elementary & Music Conservatory is a Music Themed school and special place for children. Our ethnic and cultural diversity is an asset. All children and their parents are valued.
Teachers use assessments and data to create an instructional program that is standards-based, challenging, engaging, and motivating for all children. Students are held to high expectations academically and behaviorally. All students participate in the magnet, receiving instruction in band, orchestra, keyboard lab, guitars and chorus.
Our credentialed music teachers provide learning opportunities that are progressive, extensive and engaging. In grades Pre-School, Transitional Kindergarten (TK), and Kindergarten through 3, students study music fundamentals, rhythmic patterns, keyboard, violin and voice. They learn to read music by playing the violin and the recorder. In grades 4 and 5, students choose a music focus and receive weekly small group instrumental instruction. All grades perform at least twice per year and our 4th and 5th grade students perform at various events around San Diego county.
Oak Park offers several programs to meet students' academic needs. Extended day math and reading programs provide intervention in grades 2-5. Two part-time instructional assistants help students with literacy in grades 1-3, and mathematics in grades 4-5. Our teaching staff is very stable and many are GATE Certified. Many teachers have taught at Oak Park for over ten years.
We have very strong parent and community involvement. Several family friendly events are held annually. Parents volunteer regularly in the classrooms and are very much a part of daily life here at Oak Park. We encourage you to come visit us!
