Ocean Beach Elementary has been serving the community of Ocean Beach for over one hundred years! While some things have changed here, the core mission of delivering a world class education to students has not. We provide a solid educational experience to our students, with most all our teaching staff being GATE certified. We serve over 400 TK-4th grade students. Our student body is truly diverse, both ethnically and socio-economically. This results in our students being particularly versed in dealing with the many varied types of people that they will continue to meet for the rest of their lives. We celebrate our differences here in OB Elementary!
Our staff is extremely collaborative, with grade level teams meeting regularly to plan, assess, review, and implement teaching that reaches all learners and gives them the tools to become problem solvers for the years to come. Teachers hold students to high expectations and provide the guidance and support they need to reach their fullest potential.
We are fortunate to benefit from a very involved and caring community. We have a great deal of parent support and recognize the huge role this plays in the success of our students. On any given morning you will find quite a few parents who listen to the morning message from Principal Marco Drapeau along with their students. On Friday free coffee is served to all who wish, creating a strong sense of community. Fridays we also have our morning student of the week recognition to highlight students who have been great examples.
At OBE we believe the arts are essential part of learning, not a luxury. At OBE, every TK-4th grade student receives lessons from a trained artist in dance, visual arts, theater, hip-hop, and poetry, depending on grade level. These are professional teachers to help imbue our students with a love of learning and support them in creating a new way of looking at the world. Our arts program has been recognized by the state of California which bestowed upon us the Exemplary Arts in Education Award.
We have also been recognized as a California Distinguished School for our academic success. We are proud of these honors and know it is due to the strategic work of our teachers and the collaboration with families. We hope you have a chance to come out and visit our school. We are confident your child will thrive here!
