Our school is all about heroes. We are named for one. And now, more than a half-century since we opened our doors, we are filled with everyday heroes who come to school, on time, and ready to learn and the teachers and staff who are here to greet them, with smiles and encouragement to help them do their best.
Dewey is located in the beautiful and historic Point Loma area by the bustling Midway neighborhood. Our student body draws primarily from the new Liberty Station and Gateway Village, two housing developments for families of military personnel.
To better support our military families, we also have a new Military Kids Club right here on campus, provided with assistance from USO and the San Diego Padres!
Our students bring to Dewey their amazing diversity. The majority come from military families who have seen much of the world.
Our academic focus is on the foundations of learning, reading and mathematics. And our test scores show that our students work hard and reach their important testing standards year after year -- despite the economic disadvantage of our school, which is designated as a federal Title I school. Our program is so successful that we have reached high test score levels (an 840 on state Academic Performance Index) and have earned the title of Title I Academic Achievement Award winning school.
One of our greatest strengths is our teaching staff. Our teachers are professionals with great experience and energy to offer; many love Dewey so much they have remained here for more than a decade adding stability to our school. They encourage parent involvement, which research shows helps increase student achievement. Plus it makes school a better place all around. Come see Dewey in action.
