Patrick Henry High School has a strong tradition of academics, innovation, arts and athletics. Patrick Henry High School is the largest high school in San Diego Unified School District with over 2,600 students enrolled. Henry is nestled in the Del Cerro/Allied Gardens area of San Diego on fifty-seven acres. At Henry, all faculty members realize the importance of building trusting relationships and strong sense of community. Henry team members strive to create rigorous, relevant lessons that develop in students both an understanding of content subject matter and the integrated cognitive skills needed throughout their lives. It is our goal that students leave Patrick Henry High School as thoughtful and productive citizens with a sense of purpose, integrity and a curiosity about the world in which they live.
Henry offers many avenues for academic challenges. We offer a wide range of Advanced Placement and Honors classes such as AP World History, AP Art History, AP English, AP Chemistry, AP Biology, AP Calculus just to name a few. We have a highly regarded Visual and Performing Arts program which encompasses theater, tech theater, band, orchestra, and choral music. We also have support programs which are embedded in our general education classes for our students with disabilities and students learning English. We have a partnership with Mesa College to allow our students to take several college entry level courses where our students are able to receive high school and college credit.
Patrick Henry High also has an innovative Engineering Academy to support our students’ science, engineering, architecture, design electronics and design interests. Students who participate in ACE Mentoring learn from working professionals and learn highly relevant skills. The program offers students unparalleled career exploration and academic challenge.
Our other innovative programs are our psychology and child development classes. We launched one of the first academy programs in the district, the Teaching Academy. This academy created a school within a school in order to prepare students for specific career and college programs in teaching and early childhood education.
Our faculty is experienced and many have either a Master’s degrees and/or specialized training and certifications. We are very lucky to have an active parent community that provides its time and talent to supporting students in academics, athletics, and in the performing arts.
Patrick Henry High School is a learning community that prides itself in developing every student to their fullest potential. At Henry, every student will graduate with integrity, purpose and options.
