Pershing Middle School, founded in 1964, is a middle school in the San Diego Unified School District. It is named after John J. Pershing and is located on San Carlos Drive in the community of San Carlos in San Diego.
The twenty-eight acre site for the John J. Pershing Middle was fully completed on January 2, 1964, consisting of one-story buildings with outside corridors. There are twelve separate buildings housing thirty classrooms, the cafeteria, auditorium, physical education facilities and general offices.
In 2009, Pershing's physical education fields were given a make-over which included one of the largest artificial turf fields in California. This project saves millions of gallons of water per year.
A most recent makeover began at the end of the 2014 school year and took approximately 18 months to complete. It includes new fencing, landscaping, air-conditioning in all rooms and offices, lighting, PA System, and electronic marquee. The student bathrooms closest to the 100 & 200 buildings received a makeover as well as the PE department. The office also receive a complete makeover. All areas of the campus were brought up to ADA standards.
Enjoying the Mission Trails Visitor's Center, hiking at Cowles Mountain, running, walking, and fishing at Lake Murray, and the programs and weekend sports at the San Carlos Recreation Center are all very important parts of our active community. Pershing + San Carlos = An Outstanding School in a Wonderful Community.
Principal Susan Levy leads the community to work together with one goal in mind; to provide a quality academic program in a safe and caring environment with opportunities for enrichment in engineering, digital literacy, band, orchestra, chorus, and foreign language. United, the faculty, staff and parents work diligently to provide each student with the skills necessary to grow into successful and productive citizens. These valuable skills and strategies help all students reach their goals and prepares them for high school, college and the world of work. Pershing Middle School's excellent administrative, instructional and support staff make this goal possible and attainable. At Pershing, we believe that all dreams can come true!
